Birthday Memories

As we get older memories play an important part in constructing who we are, they make us stronger, help us learn, then as we get into our twilight years they remind us of the life that we have just led. Memories can be made of different emotions like happiness, joyful, anger and sadness, there is also the music that was played throughout your life, this is often the catalyst that starts the emotion.

Recently Doncaster Disco Hire was asked to do a woman’s seventieth birthday bash, nothing unusual about that, when they asked for music from the 1940s, we though we were in for a bit of a boring night. As we arrived at the hall it was draped in Union Jacks and war memorabilia we then found out that they would be arriving in 1940’s (war) uniforms. As we blasted out Vera Lynn – (Therell Be Bluebirds Over) The White Cliffs of Dover and We’ll Meet Again the guests all started to arrive, dressed in Army, Navy and Air-Force uniforms.

As the music was playing teenagers and elderly were all up dancing, some of the elderly must have been thinking back to when this situation was for real and not just a 70th birthday celebration. As the orchestra music played (with the occasional air-raid siren) everyone had a great night remonetising and chatting with old friends and colleagues.

We were thinking that in years to come some of our lads will be listening to Black Eyed Peas, Pink, Robbie Williams and Take That and be remonetising about Afghanistan and the Gulf War.
